I could be wrong but I think my dashcam only has parking and driving mode, it doesn’t detect impact. Either way, I was hoping for 24/7. I did find an OBD hardwire adapter that auto shuts off before the battery can be drained but idk how much I trust it

Even if it does have detection capabilities, Impact only wouldn’t necessarily serve the purpose of the dashcam since I want to catch people scratching my paint and otherwise messing with my car in a way that wouldn’t set off impact detection

I’m curious as to what kind of car you drive now, is it a Tesla? Just if you’re worried about people messing with it. It might be a good idea to have a standalone portable battery hidden in your glovebox that you wire the dashcam to when you’re not driving it, especially if the dashcam plugs in via usb and not through the cigarette lighter

‘22 K5. I just adore my car, have put a lot of money and work into the cosmetics of it, and live/park in an area with reckless drivers and pedestrians. I also live near a music venue so people will park bumper to bumper and not give a care about damaging surrounding vehicles, plus a house with tons of kids who just roam around in the street. The portable battery isn’t a bad idea, it’s in my cig lighter port but that’s through an adapter so I can use the usb c end instead

Honestly that’s probably what i’d do. Before leaving the house, just head inside and throw it on the charger real quick. Then when you get home, gotta walk back outside and put the battery in there plug your dashcam back in, but it’s probably a lot cheaper than finding a hardwired alternative if there even is one that doesn’t use your car battery
