tbh i find it alienating that we have so little categorical / identity-labeling language attached to duration & age of onset re: disability & chronic illness. like, why is there no established shorthand term for “disabled since early childhood”?

“newly-disabled” is a simple enough phrase, but what about the inverse? i wanna be able to convey with one word that when i say i’m disabled, what i mean is that my identity & worldview have been shaped by the experience of illness, medicalization, debilitation and ableism since as far back as i can remember. that this stuff is both a formative influence and a constant for me

my EDS had me in a hip brace from day one so I say I've been disabled since birth but there is a glaring need for another term for what you're describing 🫶

I get what you mean. I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t sick. I know there was a time, but i have virtually no memory of that.
