CALLING ALL WHEELCHAIR USERS! There is a high likelihood of me having to use a wheelchair in the next few days and the last time I used one (the first time) it was such a huge learning curve. What tips to you have for easier mobility/steering/etc?

Off-the-shelf wheelchairs are unfortunately always gonna be difficult. Gloves are the one thing that has helped me.

I’m ngl the temporary wheelchairs are absolute shit, be careful to not tip over because they usually don’t have anti tippers on them. also be aware that there is no control on the speed of it so if you’re going down an incline you might go so fast you’ll run into a wall, and it’ll be hard to go up inclines. If you have someone available it’s a lot easier to just be pushed around in those types of wheelchairs. if you can remove the arm rests it’s easier to push yourself as well

yes it’s a temporary wheelchair. It wasn’t terrible like I think i’ve seen worse but I also have no GOOD permanent wheelchair to reference. I have parents to push me around (we are at a theme park) but I feel bad and would like to be able to maneuver myself as much as I can

The last time I went to a theme park I used a basic wheelchair and gave up a few hours in. I was exhausted and my mom was exhausted from pushing me. Ended up renting a mobility scooter and it made the experience so much better
