most people aren’t keeping up on booster shots, meaning their prior vaccinations have practically worn off at this point you might think masking is only necessary when you feel sick, but the reality is that covid (like many infectious illnesses) is at its MOST contagious in the day or two before you start to display symptoms

PSA your area might have a mask bloc that gives out free masks, or N95s aren’t as expensive now was they were back in the day. If you still can’t afford, a cloth or surgical mask still helps some

My family used to really stress for me to wear a mask, but with me having uncontrolled epilepsy & seizures hard to spot unless you’re looking directly at me, it’s dangerous to wear them. Spit would pool in the mask and I could aspirate because I hyperventilate aggressively, causing me to get little oxygen. Happy people are realizing not everyone can wear them :)

the efficacy of masks as a strategy depends on how many people in a given space are wearing one. the more people are filtering the air they breathe in and out, the less virus particles circulate in shared airspace it’s simply not enough for only the immunocompromised to protect ourselves—we all have a duty to each other to reduce this risk as much as possible

absolutely, any type of mask is still an improvement over no mask! I’m broke as hell myself so my local mask bloc is a lifesaver. there are also reusable respirators but IME the affordable ones tend to come with a caveat or two

and covid has a high rate of asymptomatic infections! you could be sick and spreading it with no symptoms at all, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t still damaging your immune system and brain behind the scenes.
