I have all the symptoms of POTS, but my heart rate doesn’t stay high for a full 10 minutes, so I don’t think I actually have POTS. Does anyone know if there is something that causes all the same symptoms as POTS, cause I have no idea what’s wrong now

there’s something called orthostatic intolerance, it could be that

POTS doesn’t require your HR to stay high for the 10 minutes. It just has to go at least 30 BPM above your resting HR within 10 miles of standing up.

Orthostatic intolerance is a symptom, not a condition :) there is orthostatic hypotension though, OP have you tested your BP? You’re correct that POTS criteria specifies a sustained increase since an immediate increase and then compensation is pretty common

They were monitoring my blood pressure throughout the whole thing and they said it was normal, which is why I’m so confused on how it’s normal but I still feel like this

I don’t think so? I’ve only gotten blood work done, for a different thing though, and the POTS testing

what are your specific symptoms-pots is under a giant dysautanomia umbrella, there are lots of similar conditions. Also stuff like mcas

One article from the Canadian cardiovascular society defines sustained as “the heart rate above threshold should be seen on at least 2 measurements at least 1 minute apart. If only seen on the last measurement, this should be repeated 1 minute later to document that the heart rate increase is sustained and not spurious.”

That’s sustained for one minute, not 10

Yes? OP didn’t say how long their heart rate increase is, this info determines if it qualifies or not

Right but one min is a whole lot shorter than 10 min. I don’t think of that as very sustained even tho technically it may be

You not thinking of it as sustained doesn’t change the opinion of an expert panel based on a literature review 🤷 just clarifying for OP that no, hitting +30 doesn’t qualify for dx if it doesn’t stay up for at least a minute

Not sure why you’re attacking me. Obv I was slightly wrong about the sustained thing but the point still stands. OP said their HR doesn’t stay elevated for a full 10 min and it doesn’t need to.

It’s not an attack? /gen sorry if it came off that way
