So frustrating when I recognize HSD/hEDS in a patient and the PT who can’t even do the beighton test right says no I don’t think so. I hate not having the credentials to back up my literal decade of research on this

The patient’s previous PT even agreed with me, even more so after looking at all of the criteria, but he just left because he’s a traveling PT

i’ve been looking into hEDS as someone hyper mobile-it’s so frustrating with the lack of recognizable most doctors have abt it :/ reding so many ppl struggling to get heard, tested, believed. hope u feel well.

I feel like PTs and docs are becoming more skeptical of it. I’ve had so many people doubt my existing diagnosis saying I test within normal limits with my ROM and it’s like moment you have the diagnosis you STOP stretching, you never do full ROM, and you also know tight muscles activate to stabilize and reduce mobility.

Also, the beighton test is expected to be retired soon. They’re releasing new guidelines for EDS in the coming year. Hopefully it should help

I really hope it is. I barely passed because my elbows don’t hyperextend and I’ve had so many injuries to my hands and wrists that they are incredibly stiff, yet my hips are the most hypermobile my specialist had ever seen in someone without dysplasia and my neck is so unstable I’ll likely need fusion in the next few years. The beighton test really sucks at assessing hypermobility

The patient had told me that she felt crazy because doctors always insisted nothing was wrong with her. She apparently cried after looking into EDS after I told her about it because it made everything make sense. For a clueless PT to dismiss it is almost cruel

I’m doing really well now. I hope you’re able to get someone to listen to you. I had to pay out of pocket for a specialist after struggling to find answers for over a decade
