My date made fun of speech impediments and it made me so uncomfortable im struggling to get over the casual ableism. Like i thought this person would be chill since they have family with chronic illness :(

Dont struggle over it, just never go on a date with him again. If he’s so casually abliest about that, what other shit is he so casual about? And sadly, some people, even tho they have these things surrounding him (aka his family) they still never develop compassion for it. It probably had the opposite affect on him which would explain why he’s so okay with being like that

Unfortunately i think you’re right. When i expressed my sympathies for her mom’s illness her response was “you get used to it,” which makes it seem like she’s emotionally distanced herself to the point of dismissing her mom’s pain.
