crazy unfair that I have the universal donor blood type but have the most fucked up un-donate-able blood

This is how I feel having O+ but veins as cooperative as cooked angels hair pasta. First and last time I tried donating I ended up with a bruise the size of a banana on both arms, an incomplete donation, 2 hrs of my life wasted, and a welfare check called on me for suspected domestic abuse

No literally I would love to donate blood but I literally miss all the qualifications. I have perfect veins but consistently low hemoglobin, weight, medications, etc etc. Lowkey sad, wish I could donate.

that’s so terrible but I can relate on the awful veins part… mine so tiny that every phlebotomist i’ve ever seen has made a comment on it and they roll too 😭 I can’t believe they kept trying to stick you for TWO HOURS. I don’t mind needles but god i’d be so far past my wits end

The rolling is the WORST!!! And they got me on the second stick barely. I had to wait a long time for the more advanced person to come after they missed the first time because they’re only allowed two tries. This caused them to not abandon a bad stick the second time. Most of my time there, was actually me slowly bleeding into the bag while bruising instantly. They only let it go so long cause I have a high pain tolerance. They even admitted they were wrong and wanted to try for a whole bag

Yea… got a free t-shirt tho! I had to get an iv like a week ago and the guy took one look at my arms and looked at me like I told the most unfunniest joke and said “I don’t usually like going for the hands but [flips arms]. And you have great veins in your hands”. Quick, painless, no bruise at all. Really highlighted the difference in professional standards for me
