I have an appointment with a geneticist today to figure out if I have eds. I’ve been hitting dead end after dead end after dead end in diagnosing what’s wrong with me and I’m dreading that this is going to be the same. I’m so tired of this

I have an apt for this next year, and I’m feeling a very similar way about it. I’m tired of dead ends and feeling like I’m losing my mind with drs not listening. It was so bad at one point that I genuinely thought it was all in my head, lol it was not.

But just know, you aren’t alone in this, I hope you they can help find you a diagnosis, eds or not. I’ve heard they are very thorough with their questions and evaluations (at least the place I’m going to, but it seems like that’s also a geneticist thing).

He diagnosed me with hyper mobility syndrome, said it was a precursor to eds and to start swimming, taking a few supplements and going to pt for joint pain, and to not do any high-impact sports. Doesn’t answer all of my symptoms, but it’s something for now. Kind of sad though, had a bit of a pipe dream that I might get into some really cool martial art like muay thai at some point, but now I know it would likely be bad for me in the long run. Swimming’s cool too though

Idk how it can be a “precursor for eds” ?? Eds is genetic they just haven’t found the marker for hEDS. You’re born with it (no hate to you just confused about the doctor)

To clarify, you can’t have hypermobility syndrome turn into EDS. EDS is genetic. You can have hypermobility spectrum disorder and not have EDS, but if they diagnosis you with EDS it was always EDS

Maybe he just phrased it weirdly? Idk, I was also a bit confused since I was pretty sure eds was a fundamental genetic issue with your connective tissue. I’m really bad about not questioning doctors or standing my ground with them though, I’ve got a very bad case of “they’re the doctor, they know what they’re doing, I shouldn’t question them

That’s real, I’m bad at advocating for myself as well. His suggestions are good tho and swimming should help a lot with joint issues!

Did the Dr send you off for blood work?

He thought it was unnecessary, but said it was perfectly valid if I still wanted to and I did, I just need to go to the hospital to get that done now at some point
