please go through a reputable company. i have a service dog through canine companions (they r known for being the first (and best imo) and give people dogs for free!!) and he is the best boy ever. so well trained and knows his job well. service dogs through this company have a 50% fail rate, so if you train at home the fail rate is higher. i wouldn’t risk it. go through professionals.

I had one. I trained her, though and got her from a humane society. It took time to train her, but by the 2nd year after adopting her, she wasn’t as hyper and paid more attention to my needs, and she helped me when my blood sugar got too low and helped me with PTSD

i had one as a child, and you should start by looking up trainers who specialize in the type of dog you need

I have a service dog! Just got approved to take him to work and took him to all four years of college! I did owner training but would not do that again. I’d 100% go with a reputable org. may I ask how old you are?

If you’re still in college I would wait until you finish - to be completely transparent it’s not something I would change but definitely not something I or many other people in the SD community would recommend. Still get your names on those waiting lists ofc because they can take a while. It can be really disheartening to not hear back. Are you using the ADI search tools to find a place near you?
