Met with a POTS specialist for the first time almost 2 weeks ago and I genuinely cannot stop thinking about how amazing this man is. I felt so seen and heard and he was so clear with all of the next steps and resources I could use to do my own research

I told him toward the start of the appt that I was pre-med and had taken a ton of health science classes (it came up naturally I promise), and he lit up and got so excited that he could get more technical with his language. He mentioned that it’s really hard for a lot of ppl to get an actual diagnosis because it’s far more common in women than men and how much he hated how that impacted anyone’s level of care

I mentioned just as an off-hand thought that I had chronic hives and he immediately noted it, said “I wanna talk about that a bit more later,” finished taking my history and going through the actual POTS stuff, and actually reminded me toward the end of the appt that he wanted to follow up and suggested that I look into MCAS and talk to my derm because it’s a common comorbidity

He prescribed a wearable heart monitor for 30 days but he noted my adhesive allergy immediately and offered alternative monitoring lengths based on how I was feeling (this shit is itchy as hell but the actual reaction on the skin is minimal (I take 4 antihistamines a day for the aforementioned chronic hives)) and said we could even go as short as a single day and work with the data we got

I literally thanked him at the end of the appt for explaining everything in amazing detail because he’s the only provider I’ve ever met who heard me say “I’m premed” and actually did something with it. Idk if anyone’s actually gonna read all this but I just had to rave about this provider real quick because he was amazing and I’ve never had such a good experience with any sort of healthcare before

I’m curious what resources he gave you? I used to be premed and now I’m health science instead but I know a lot of technical terms and stuff and love when providers talk to me with more technical terms bc I understand it better
