well as of rn in conference standings georgia lost to bama and a&m hasn’t had a loss and bama has only 1 conference loss. but since bama beat georgia in the head to head as of rn bama would need to lose again for georgia to be in

The two teams that play in the SEC championship are the ones with the best conference record, i.e. the two teams that have the best record against other SEC teams. Right now, Texas A&M has no SEC losses so their first, and both Georgia and Alabama have one SEC loss, so theyre tied for second. BUT Alabama beat Georgia earlier this year, and since head-to-head results are the tiebreaker that means Alabama is in second place and would play in the SEC championship against A&M, and Georgia’s in third

The fun part of this is if it’s still a three way “tie” for the second spot (Alabama, Georgia, and Ole Miss), head to head doesn’t count initially. It’s conference opponent win %. So there’s a world in which Georgia still goes before Bama

Ooo got it (i think), so rn it’s prob gonna be Texas a&m vs bama? (Unless bama loses again right?)

Gotcha. Since ga is ranked higher than ole miss and bama in the conference, why is it not ga vs ole miss for the spot to play A&M?

Because people are assuming Alabama will beat auburn. Right now Georgia is ahead of bama because uga has played all 8 of their conference games and have a 7-1 record. Bama has only played 7 conference games, and have a 6-1 record. Bama’s last conference game is against auburn at the end of the year, and if they win they’ll move to 7-1 in the SEC, tying them with Georgia, at which point that head-to-head tie breaker will factor in and bama will go to the sec championship

ga is only ranked higher rn because they have finished all their conference games. bama still has to play more conference games which is why if you look at the sec standings ga is higher

Additionally, ole miss has one SEC loss, but it was to Georgia, so even if ole miss don’t lose another SEC game then they would still finish behind Georgia because of their head-to-head result

I believe it’s Kentucky beats Vandy and Arkansas beats Mizzou
