Might be a case where the big 10 won’t let them join unless they join in football as well

So basically, in 2013, there was scheduling and qualification issues, they were pressured to join a conference and they chose the ACC to keep their status as an academic institution instead of being a “sports school”. In turn their brand got pushed and got better broadcasting rights. Which, fun fact, part of why they dont join a conference in football because they still have a broadcasting contract with NBC from the 70’s so they wouldn’t get those broadcasting benefits for their football games.

their hockey team is literally in the big ten so it's probably not that lol

Yeah idk I was just guessing but the acc also doesn’t have hockey so it could be an exception
