Hot take, Texas Tech handled the situation better than almost any school would have. If this were almost any other school they would’ve swept it under the rug as soon as they found out, just like Cincinnati did. Instead they self reported and then fought

Now I agree that he probably should’ve been punished more, but so should have Indiana and Cincinnati? He hasn’t played a single down for Texas Tech yet they’re getting all the hate?

Cincinnati didn’t know about it. Texas Tech is handling this extremely poorly by actively advocating for a known criminal to be the face of their team and university

And how did they find out about it? Someone knew and signs point to cincy

Actually it might’ve been FBI but it was law enforcement, they received a tip from the sportsbook who then passed it along to the NCAA who then informed TTU

No the sportsbook reported him. Turns out the people who set the odds don’t like inside trading or being under regulatory scrutiny

Ok that’s fair, but how is this techs fault? If all this happened when he was at Indiana, what’s the difference in him playing for tech or cincy? If you think that if he plays for tech, tech should vacate wins, then you have to say cincy has to vacate their wins from last season

Because Texas Tech is actively trying to get him to play right now. Cincy & Indiana would be liable if they still wanted a player who committed an unredeemable act in the eyes of the NCAA on their team. I don’t think Cincy should have to forfeit their wins, because not only was his eligibility not in question they were not aware of any wrongdoing. Texas Tech SHOULD have to vacate games that sorsby plays because not only are they aware of his misconduct, they actively encourage it

There is already a precedent to not punish teams who were unaware of gambling misconduct that results in a eligibility termination. Iowa & Iowa state did not have to forfeit any games after their gambling FBI probe

Also for the record, this did not all happen at Indiana. He bet on the team while at Indiana, which is an even worse offense than just gambling. Sports betting period is grounds for termination of eligibility. He was caught sending tens of thousands of dollars out of state (while in texas) to gamble on his behalf because it is regulated there

Any school would advocate for a multimillion dollar asset to play if they have the legal green light to do so
