What hope is there for mid majors in today’s college football? They already couldn’t really compete for championships, and now in the era of NIL the power has become even more unequal. Why are there still so many FBS teams? They should combine with FCS

And the top, say 40, college programs should be a pro style league with regional divisions. The way college football is set up is antiquated

I say this as a lifelong Texas fan who also went to Temple and follows their program too. I think it would be better for both sides if it went this way

Power 2 fans think everyone else will keep watching fbs if this happens. We won’t, we’ll just stop watching and instead wait for the nfl to take over saturdays too

People who went to the smaller schools will keep watching those teams and will also watch the major programs because that’s what we already do. There’s already only a small number of programs competing for championships anyways. I don’t really see how it would be different

The only difference is we’d get rid of these stupid blowout games and the illusion that all of these teams are in the same league when it’s plainly clear they’re not

I watch major programs because my school can still make the playoffs and in theory a championship so in theory they’re all on the same ground. If you cut off to just 40 teams, there’s zero reason to watch those major programs anymore. We already saw the fatigue and ratings falling during the Clemson/bama run

Blowout games like when Clemson beat the breaks off Oklahoma in the playoffs? There’s two of your top 40 teams and we still got blowouts. Or what about Georgia/tcu? Tcu beat Michigan pretty decisively and got blown the fuck out

We watch them for the same reason we watch any pro sport, they’re our team, usually who we’re regionally affiliated to. People from the outside joke about most Texas fans not going to Texas, thing is I’m actually from Austin, and I know that to us they’re like our professional team. As for the school I actually went to, I’d like to see temple actually compete for a championship, not just have a chance “in theory”

Basically what I’m saying is that from my experience I know that in a lot of the country college football is much more like pro sports and it’s not just affiliation based on where you went to school. And feel bad for any mid major fans who actually think their team can compete. Even if they’re the one that gets a playoff spot. Look what happened to Boise

Basically what I’m saying is this. I don’t think middle Tennessee fans are tuning in to Texas vs Ohio state because they feel like middle Tennessee has a shot at the title. Maybe you feel this way, I think most mid major fans don’t. They’re tuning in to watch the big game. People who went to the school or CFB junkies when no other game on the only people watching mid major football. They will continue to do so. And everyone still gonna watch the big games
