The top 12 ranked teams should make it… tech is in the big 12 and a top 12 ranked team. Last year Boise was ranked in the top 12. So it won’t mean only big 10 and sec make it

But guaranteeing a spot for these conferences allows them to remain competitive in recruiting. If they loose those spots the balance of power will eventually fall back to entirely SEC and big 10 schools where the conference is basically guaranteed to get spots regardless.
