This NIL crap is ridiculous. Out here getting $80,000 plus vehicles for free, millions of dollars for nothing basically, and regular students are struggling to survive. It’s insane

Students that make the deans list or honors list should get 10k every time they do and not in the form of scholarships

Terrible take. NIL is a private transaction between two individuals. If a business person wanted to hire a student for a part time job at that person’s company, would you still have a problem?

And they bring millions to the university in tickets, concessions, brand deals, and tv revenue.

I dont think you understand why NIL exists. It exists because those students are putting their entire future careers at risk to play football. Playing college football at a high level requires putting all your eggs in that one basket, and a single injury would prevent them from ever going pro. NIL exists to compensate for that risk.

I think it’s fine (to an extent). These athletes generate millions a year, and they should be able to be compensated more than just “school tuition + living expenses.”

Will Hammond and Brendan Sorsby would make Tech the same amount of money despite one costing millions more than the other. While I agree with your point the market value on some of these guys is not accurate to the potential ROI imo.

Yeah that’s why it’s called an investment, not everything you put money into is a guaranteed positive ROI, same way there is certainly athletes that step up and play above their pay grade any given year. And in Texas Tech case specifically, their donors arn’t missing the money
