1. Missouri is a lot more Southern than people think. Places like St. Louis and Kansas City are clearly midwestern, but Southern Missouri and even parts of Central Missouri are very heavily influenced by the same factors that influenced the rest of the South. For example, the Bible Belt, slavery, the Mississippi River, etc 2. The schools could still play each other annually even tho they’re not in the same conference anymore. Other schools do it, so I don’t see why they can’t

They have 0 rivalries in the SEC, all of their rivalries are Big 8 so that point is dumb. They COULD play, but Missouri refuses to play in all sports, let alone football

I think many would agree that the Mayor’s Cup rivalry between Mizzou and South Carolina has already become an exciting rivalry to watch even tho it’s not that old. Also, Mizzou is rivals with Oklahoma in the SEC, and that’s an old historic rivalry that goes way back. And even tho the Battle Line Rivalry is more recent, there is some geographical overlap there between the fanbases, especially in Southern Missouri. Although that rivalry is very one sided in Mizzou’s favor

But anyway, I still don’t see why Mizzou and kansas can’t play each other every year in football. Look at Clemson and South Carolina for example. Or look at Georgia and Georgia Tech

I think the only fans that might be seriously invested are those in Southern Missouri (especially given the contrast of that region to northwest arkansas). Mayor’s Cup is as artificial as it comes, which I find odd for USC because Clemson is a very active rivalry

I agree that the Mayor’s Cup had a pretty artificial creation with it being just based on the 2 cities having the same name, but I think what’s really helped the rivalry is the fact that the games are always close 1 score games. Also, it seems like each team always beats the other at the most inconvenient time. I think that’s what’s led it to be an exciting rivalry to watch in recent years. It also seems like those 2 teams are pretty evenly matched most of the time when they compete

It’s because the athletic departments are on very bad terms. The only games that were able to be played that weren’t post season determined by the NCAA was softball & women’s soccer. It took alot to get anything rescheduled consistently by 2021. Basketball is constantly under threat because of opposition of coaches. Baseball sounds like it will canceled soon, and volleyball will probably never return
