Since week 0 is becoming the new normal… and a lot of teams are playing FCS or tune-up games… why don’t we count them as “pre season” games? Or just transition to a 13 game schedule? You get one free FCS, 1 G6, 2 P4 opponents, 9 conference

Would disallow the opportunity to create a schedule with stronger p4 opponents if the conference play is weak

You would play 11 P4 games and 1 G6, plus the free (in theory) FCS game. That’s more than now for basically everyone

Defeats the chance of a full P4 schedule though. Week 0 games also give huge budget increases to weaker programs due to P4 paying them 500k-1M to play. Look at ND vs NIU two years ago. Good example to get some money and generate hype.

That’s why I think giving that Week 0 type of game against FCS allows that opportunity. And one G6 allows that as well. Then still leaves room for 11 P4. I suppose a team could also just schedule 12 P4, but they aren’t doing that even now.

I get why teams do the FCS tuneup, but it shouldn’t count toward the actual record. Like sure you went 6-6 but if one was against Furman, should it really make you bowl eligible?
