What annoys me more than anything about Big 10 fans is that they’ll say things like this, but then they’ll shit their pants if I say Miami or Texas Tech deserve to be ranked above Oregon
What annoys me more than anything about SEC fans is they act like 9-3 or 10-2 teams in other conferences aren’t legit. A few years back OSU had a great resume beating PSU and ND and no one took them seriously

I mean you have an argument but the issue is oregon would be a large favorite in the computers over miami and tech. Oregon would also be a favorite in the computers over… every sec team (except possibly bama but fpi and sp+ like oregon > bama)

Also oregon started 7th in fpi (below bama and uga) so its not preseason priors. They are just that good

Rankings aren’t supposed to be based on things like FPI and SP+, they’re supposed to be based on resume. All 3 teams’ losses are against good opponents. If you want to argue that Penn State was a quality win bc that game was basically what killed them, Miami has FSU. Texas Tech’s only loss was by 4 on the road with a backup QB against the team that won the conference the previous year. Miami and Texas Tech both have more decent to good wins than Oregon.

But we know the ap values computers, thats why undefeated byu is only at 11 and bama is over a&m despite a terrible loss. The ap should be consistent in what it values instead of flip flopping logic to get their favorite sec teams in the top 10. These 2 loss sec teams arent any better than usc or notre dame and the metrics bare that out

USC not being ranked is a travesty, and the computers bear that out. Also a head to head over Michigan who is ranked

I also don’t fully trust the FPI as a predictive metric in general… it has Texas (who should be unranked rn) as the 3rd highest rated SEC team, Penn State as the 6th highest rated Big 10 team (ahead of Washington, Iowa, and Illinois), and FSU as the 5th best ACC team

Texas has such a great roster, i think you would be surprised where they will finish (either 3 or 4 losses and one of them an optional game vs osu)

SP+ is better than FPI fs but using oregon as an example isnt great because all the metrics LOVE oregon, even the ones that were skeptical in the preseason
