I want to learn basic computer science so that I can better understand the programs I have to work with as a geo and accounting student but my aid won’t allow me to take those classes. Can you recommend free resources? Mainly interested in coding.

CodingBat, microsoft has some free resources, YouTube tutorials are generally not amazing but there’s probably someone good out there

Harvard’s CS 50 is a pretty good starting point IMO for general CS/coding knowledge that you can then take and apply to your field. There are online lectures and projects that are all free. If you just want to understand the programs and don’t care too much about software dev/cs you could probably get a surprising level of understanding conversing with an LLM about how a particular piece of software is designed

Find job postings for the jobs you want, hunt out software names and see those software companies have training or developer programs that you can sign up for. Tbh there is probably more money to be made selling/implementing that software FYI

I felt super intimidated by YouTube due to the flood of videos and since dislikes aren’t a thing anymore I can’t tell which ones are worth my time. I didn’t know Microsoft had free resources and will be looking into CodingBat. Thank you!
