i have a macbook air m2 and its great. Very nice for development. Look into newer models. Id recommend getting 16gb of ram because my 8gb base model is not enough.

I’m boutta get a Mac book air m4 with 24gb ram and 512 ssd. If you’re a student you can get that for exactly 1499 and it comes with free AirPods or a mouse. Pretty great computer, probably could find a comparable one for the price but MacOS is just super easy and dev friendly, and this machine super powerful and will last. Unless you know exactly what you’d want to build or love Linux, I would get the Mac

If you don’t want to commit to the apple ecosystem, then the 14”/16” LG gram 2-1 is a great option. I’ve been using an older one for four years and have been taking digital notes on it with the included stylus (Don’t need to buy an extra iPad for that). But tbh, walk into a best buy and see what kind of laptop build/design you like. For $1500, there’s alot of good options. In 2025, most of the laptops in this range will have great battery life and peformance. Just avoid the Snapdragon laptops.

What’s wrong with snapdragon?

But either Apple or Windows will have their own frustrations and quirks. (I would look into debloating Windows due to Microsoft’s BS).

Great battery life, but it’s an arm chip and Microsoft’s ARM to x86 translation is not that great, so some applications wont run. Or you may need to look for ARM variants of software you want.

Mac M chips are ARM but Apple was very thorough with their translation layer, and they have enough power to force developers to compile apps for ARM

the battery on this drains so fast the longer you have it

I’ve had my 15 inch air for year and a half and the battery is still phenomenal

like every battery in existence? As long as you keep the charge between 20% and 80% on lithium ion, you can make it last longer

If you have time to explain, why’s it bad to keep a battery fully charged

Its just the physics of chemical energy storage in a li-ion. It degrades over time, and keeping it between those percentages makes sure the degradation is minimal. Branch Education on youtube has a wonderful video explaining this

i mean that’s obvious…but in my experience i’ve only had it for a year and it drains pretty quickly

My M1 Pro is at 750 cycles and still 83% health, and close to 4 years old maybe you just have piece of shit software running
