In my experience, getting jobs is about meeting/knowing people. I still havent gotten a job from just sending an app out without already knowing someone in the company

In content and real application, but he lands these and I don’t, is this just luck/nepotism and connections. Or is there something I’m missing, bc this has me fuming, I’ve worked my tail off, and he kicks back and does nothing

It’s about knowing people. My furry friend has gotten contacts from going to MidwestFurcon (I shit you not). You need the basic skills of “not pushing to prod without someone else looking at it” but yeah it’s who you know past that point.

I’m in cyber and imo it’s a mix of things but cyber is really connections based as much as it is about technical skill. Like I went to a really big conference and I had multiple people who I really hit it off with that offered me jobs or wanted to see how they could help me. However these were all from places that were super niche and related to things that I’m interested and more experienced in. My advice is to try to go to things where you can speak directly with people to network.
