I don’t think AI will ever replace front end, unless u want every site to look the same. Working on this complex front end is pissing me off

My theory is that designers will encroach front end leveraging AI and CS folks who don’t play a role in actual design (for the most part) will get pushed to back end etc to make use of the actual science in computer science. End products will probably end up better for it.

I dont know if youre’ aware of Vercel’s v0 project. Its pretty cool. It cant write really complex front end logic but it creates pretty alright UI as a starting point for your project

I normally draw a wireframe or design mock up and ask the AI to code that into existence. Usually works well.

Okay but also like I knew a guy who was using ai to make a UI for a thing I was working on and it inserted some weird mystery loop that added like 8 seconds to our load times….

Are you using cursor?

I used chat gpt to come up with a website plan, Claude to make a wireframe, and cursor to make a full stack… it’s over for greedy software engineers lol

I think it will probably change the pipeline tbh. We’ve seen this already with Figma where Figma was the designer app, and then you could convert what you saw into code (figma has an export option, and you change what you need to). With AI, perhaps the figma step into frontend will become easier for designers to do themselves, with only minor touch ups and customizations at the end that can’t be done any other way without changing things yourself.

Yeah I think the focus will be closing the gap between iterations and the time it takes a designer to come up with an approved design to deployment. Probably will have a few formal CS folks to deal with edge cases and AI failure points.

In my experience it can do a decent job if you use shadcn components as boilerplate
