pick your favorite social media, try to make a clone of it using your favorite tech stack. I know AirBnB is a popular one to remake

most definitely make a web app, get something with a front end, back end, and a database. you’ll get a bit of experience of everything and knowing how to code AND actually make/deploy something is important

Code is a means to the end of solving a problem. What problems need to be solved? here’s one that’s been bugging me, at Kaiser permanente their medication list does not include a medication dosing schedule. For example, when do you take which pills and why? Morning, evening, afternoon, any special conditions? What about insulin? Given a blood sugar reading which insulin should you take and how many units?

How do you have no projects? How would you even show anyone you actually know how to build anything?

my schools cs classes are not at all project based and i work multiple jobs + have to do a lot of studying to keep up so i dont have that much time to actually work on practical skills

that’s a really good way to think about it. i feel like i just don’t have the skills to tackle the problems that feel super big and out of my control, but you’re right! i’m sure once i narrow down on something i care a lot about, i will be more motivated to do the research that needs to be done to build up my skills.

ugh i hate leetcode but i hear you…necessary evils. good luck with the app!! im curious how you’re planning on deploying it—are you going to pay for the developer subscription?

MERN or MEAN stack is a popular one, you could also do a frontend/backend with nextjs and a traditional db like postgresql
