I had a meeting w HR where I spilled how dismissive my manager is to me and hasn’t assigned me anything. 20 mins later, a coworker tells me that my manager is mourning a loss. am i the asshole? or should poor treatment get dismissed in this case?

I think your manager should be more transparent that they won’t be as active with you due to personal reasons maybe? It’s a double edged sword. They don’t need to give all the details but they shouldn’t have done that to you… also you are in a job to work. You want to do things, not just sit there. Idk, you didn’t know what they were going through until now… so YNTIA, just be patient and open with each other
