any thoughts on if or when the cs market will recover?? looking pretty bleak rn and i’d rather not waste time looking for cs jobs if it’s hopeless (just graduated w no prospects 🥲)

The hard part is it looks like there’s no push back against AI/Offshoring and the economy is set to only get worse. It might not drop as fast, but it’s hard to imagine it will go back to what it was pre-2021. Just my opinion tho.

Stop looking at software engineering. CS intersects with nearly every field, broaden your horizons

in my opinion there are only three options right now. 1) get into ai research preferably for a leading ai company like openai, meta or google 2) Build something for yourself 3) Don’t do tech that may or may not sound insane but i think its the truth. Id be happy to discuss exactly why I think this but not a lot of characters here

“tech” you mean software development?? because theres tons of jobs in tech that wont go away. dont use broad umbrella terms and discourage everyone because you think AI research is some hot shit everyone should flock to and go to the three most popular and competitive companies to work for. what an incredibly stupid comment.

by tech I mean software dev (front end and back end), data science, cyber, and a lot more. Tech is exactly the word I intend to use. It is absolutely not constrained to software development only. I also didn’t say people should all flock towards ai research. I perfectly understand it is a narrow path that is getting more competitive. I said that is the option you should take if you are dead set on a tech career.

#1 isn’t even enough to get your hired. i graduated with 3 years of ai research and several internships doing research w/ LLMs and still can’t fucking get hired because they want people with masters and doctorate degrees ❤️
