impostor syndrome is real

This is completely normal for internships. No amount of learning in the classroom will ever prepare you for actually working, and the learning curve is steep in the real world. As long as you’re learning, you’ll do fine.

OP this is REALLY normal!! internships, esp in industry, are so different from your CS coursework that it can feel easy to get discouraged because you don’t know things or feel crazy imposter syndrome. but they know you’re an intern and nobody expects you to know all those things!! use this as a learning experience, try to be a sponge and soak up as much as you can. this isn’t just for your resume, this is for you too!!! try to make the most of it, ask questions, google your errors. u got this!

If you’re feeling this bad about it, then it’s not for you.

I have an internship. I’m not saying CS isn’t for them, but you shouldn’t be working at a place that makes you feel like you won’t be able to complete an internship. It’s not the workplace for OP, and really, it would be more wise to quit

i think you’re making extremely harsh conclusions. they said they’re feeling defeated and like they don’t know things, and the “idk how im going to finish” is clearly an anxiety thing. encouraging that is gross, because they most certainly CAN finish!! internships can be a learning curve and it can be difficult to adjust to how different industry is compared to class work. let them breathe and figure things out

I think EVERYONE should be challenged by an internship actually

there is nothing wrong with being challenged, there IS something wrong with feeling stupid every single day and worrying about whether or not you’ll finish a 12 week internship. once again, i’m not hating on op, im hating on wherever they work. they shouldn’t have interns feelings like that
