I do data transformations and normalization in the data analytics and IT dept at an insurance company. There’s an underwriter who still uses Access for historical data going from fuck knows when until March 2020. She’s the only one who knows how to use it. And it’s an important thing to know for rate adjustments So, we’re using PowerBI to take the whole thing and put it in a more accessible and modern format. But, in doing so, we’re taking away the only reason she’s still employed
So, halfway through the meeting where this nice, very non tech oriented woman with a slew of rates and claims knowledge in her head is walking us through the Access DB, I just sort of realized “oh, right now you’re too important to company to be removed because you’re the only one who knows how to pull this data since this is an archaic system” and “oh god, I think we’re supposed to code this lady’s job away” And after our team’s boss left, we showed her how to pin apps to her taskbar 😭
