What can I do to actually know about the existence of important cs topics. I just feel like everyone has heard of all these things before except me (I’m a sophomore). Does anyone else feel so far behind?

Do well in class and get an internship you’ll be fine. Coming from a recent grad with a good full time swe job who never wrote a line of code before college

I can say from experience I feel years behind some of the people I talk to, and even after learning so much I still have no idea what some people are talking about. You are absolutely not alone. My best advice is to try to get tech jobs where you can. Internships are tough if it’s your first one and you’re not a junior/senior so don’t put yourself down if you’re struggling

About 2 years ago I had decent grades but felt so behind everyone in my major, I spent 2 months to get a tech job in general and one of those months was unemployed. I felt stupid. Now, I have one job and one internship under my belt, and have been reminded that learning at school is useless compared to learning on the job. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself, but make you’re you’re at least trying

Working in IT is kind of the toilet bowl of CS work but it’s a great way to catch up on a lot of the stuff you may “feel behind” on. The basic troubleshooting skills you learn apply to other fields of CS and just life in general
