COMPSCI PEOPLE: My windows computer is refusing to update to windows 11 (v25H2). I’ve tried restarting, doing it on multiple WiFi networks, all background applications are shut down. There are 60GB of open disc space so that shouldn’t be the issue?

Does actually met all the requirements for 10-11? If not could remove the hard drive image it to 11 and plug the hard drive back in

Can it run 11? Lots of older laptops can’t

I’m used to Linux but using this one for school stuff so idfk what’s wrong. I’ve been trying at least twice daily for about a week now and it’s saying it’s installed 100% and then failing. It gives me the same error code every time but I can’t find what it means

I’m like 99% sure you should be able to download and make a USB flash drive of win 11 to upgrade. Use that before you try wiping the whole system to flash it.

(Btw this is my attempt at the “make someone else look at it so it immediately works properly” strategy cuz if all else fails that’s usually what fixes it)

is this an upgrade from 10 to 11 or just to a newer version of 11?

Let it sit, what’s the exact problem. I need an error message, if not let it sit and do its thing. Sometimes the CPU needs to offload processes to assist the installation. If you cannot download it, switch off from a VPN if on one. Make sure secure boot is enabled in bios. (If it’s a laptop with UEFI). It may take some time ETown WiFi is only around 10Mega bits per sec, pretty slow.

Thank you- I’m headed back to school so maybe Eduroam will work for once lol. The error message was 0x800f0991 I think (or something similar I may be one digit off I’m doing this from memory). Also the online help agent was definitely a robot and also entirely unhelpful

Sounds like a windows component got corrupted. Try opening your command prompt as an administrator and run “sfc /scannow” and see if it finds any errors. If it does try running update again. Lemme know if that works
