not comfortable sharing the company name here, but we’re talking like wall street (for reference). i got the job offer literally two days ago. i had 3 rounds of interviews that spanned about 2 weeks (very late may-early June)— 1 HR recruiter, 1 with the team hiring manager, and a full panel technical interview where they just asked me in extreme detail about everything on my resume lol but ive been getting rejected from jobs since like october, im shocked the one I applied to in June was it
i will say that a big game changer for me getting more interviews was 1) never applying on LinkedIn/indeed/other job boards. search for the job on google and apply directly on their website 2) if the job posting has a recruiter listed, message them on LinkedIn to ask more about the role 3) always provide a cover letter if there’s a spot for it. even if it’s bullshit, even if they don’t read it, just put one there. also good for explaining if ur skills don’t 100% align with the position
one thing my interviewers liked was 1) i understood the purpose of the role 2) i seemed very enthusiastic and sweet (verbatim lol) 3) even though my background is cs/research and not finance, i understood some basics and proved im capable of picking up whatever’s needed on the job 4) i asked “good questions”— my interviewer LOVED that I asked “what does success look like in this role, esp in the first 3-6 months?” and things like that that first meeting is really important! take advantage of it
i asked a lot of role-specific questions (and even had some brainstorming with ChatGPT to come up w some questions). the only one he really complimented was the success-related question. he said he “knew it was a good question because [he] had to think about it” it’s important to remember who ur talking to. if it’s just a recruiter, they won’t know much about things like team culture, but they can answer things about the interview process/next stages and broader questions about the role/company
