My confession is that I like working after hours way more than working during the day. I’m relaxed, can concentrate, and can focus on slow/steady progress. During 9-5, I feel so much pressure to deliver asap that I end up only doing busywork / low hanging

fruit. Get most of my deep work / major coding done at home. I’m way more productive after hours. Problem is, this is terrible for my work life balance because now I’m working way more hours than I should be.

I have ADHD too. I've found the best way to lock in. Find music that makes you happy. Plan your work. Get out that white board or paper. Turn off your notifications on teams/slack, close your email and web browser. Only have the editor and the terminal open. Try the pomodoro technique until you can just naturally lock in for lengths of time and work.

How do I bring myself to do actual deep work during the office day? I’m still in the college mindset of spontaneous marathons of work at unpredictable times

I hadn’t considered I might have adhd but starting to lookup forums the stuff I’m seeing extremely resonates with me

“Yes. I now realize my main issue was (is) a paralyzing inability to start tasks. The result was hours of "working" on homework with nothing to show. I would just sit and try to force my brain to think. Inevitably I would be crying at 11pm over incomplete projects.” This is me to a tee. I have literally stayed up till 3am to get an hour’s worth of work done from 3-4am.
