No it’s not. They don’t need a ballroom and they’re taking the east wing which is definitely a large part. They plan 90k sq ft, the white house itself is 55k. They have a budget of nearly 250 million dollars which they claim is through private donors, obviously this is a big project.

It is part an extension and part demolition. Obviously they have to tear down walls to extend it plus wtf do we need 90k sq ft for that we didn’t already have a room for. Not to mention that 250 mil could be used for something a lot better.

But also I think him being allowed to just tear something down is exactly the problem. Especially the part where he essentially says “well I’m the president so I’m just going to do it” when he was asked about zoning for the ballroom.
