Because small victories don’t matter in the face of larger losses? What is your point I see this same sentiment so often it’s just baffling. You shouldn’t be happy because evil exists. You shouldn’t have grace because evil exists. Well fuck I guess if anything exists just cancel the opposite. I’m not religious but some atheists need to lock in.

It's not that they don't matter! It was just the thought that there is so much "glaze" towards this all powerful being related to benevolence, despite so many horrors persisting for people. The small victories are great! But as someone with unlimited power it feels hard not to want to hold a being accountable for what they seem to have chosen not to do

Most religious people don’t really believe anybody gets to “escape Justice“ for lack of a better phrase. That’s almost exclusively an agnostic / atheist worldview

It’s free will. I’m assuming you’re talking about abrahamic religions because it seems like you are. In said religions god gives free will to his creations and knows what you shall do with it. He does not force humanity into some perfect utopia. If it’s hard to imagine then imagine choosing to pot a watermelon seed somewhere, even if you know what the watermelon will ultimately do and where its seeds will grow and do you didn’t force it into what you wanted. Within a square mold and forced it to be square. and another common rebuttal is that god then should have put humanity into the best possible position to minimize evil, but ultimately (abrahamic) god started with 2 people and here we are and also we are not finished so maybe this route while having violence contains the least violence. Meaning more violence now could be less later etc.

There’s also a philosophical question that if (any) god had forced society to always be non violent and whatever else as an ideal of perfection, would we be happy? Or I guess more accurately could we be free? Can you be truly happy without being free? Kind of an unknowable situation.

For someone who’s not religious, I can really respect how you steelmanned this philosophical basis behind the Abrahamic faiths in terms of addressing the problem of evil.
