So agents would catch (those who could be caught), record their information, give them an asylum hearing date (often months or years away) and would release them into the US with no way to find them. And may of them would show to the hearing, but may would also not. So 12,000 per day for 365 days is over 4 million. For 4 years is well over 16.

In addition to that, it’s only used for those they could catch, there are so many that bpd can’t keep up and there are coyotes smuggling migrants in. Cuba in particular sees its citizens as “tainted” when they touch any US soil and won’t take them back.
