That happened to me once and I’m still upset. I even moved out of that apartment and never found it )it was my original piercing too :( This sounds crazy but use one of those plastic clothes tags in the meantime to keep it open. If you can go to Spencer’s, they have fairly affordable multi packs that won’t turn your face green, or some Walmarts have them sometimes
