I’m seeing wasians people demonize other asian people for personal incidents that happen to them. Not ALL full asian people think you’re “just white.” They are just a very loud minority. I think it’s GREAT the wasian people are building community together, but please recognize that YOUR experience as a half WHITE person is vastly different than other mixed people.
And don’t even get me started how roles written for a “full Asian” actor are slowly being given to Wasians. It’s like when a straight person plays a gay person in a movie. They can put on a good performance, but because they’re not connected to the “ethos” of the character, it’ll never be as strong as someone whose identity aligns with the character.
Like some of these talking points they’re making online just seem like they’re very unlikely to happen IRL To me it just sounds like a lot of angry Wasians still need to decolonize and deconstruct their mind. No one’s saying you “can’t” be proud to be white, but what is making you want to be “so proud?” Think about that…
As a white person, I don’t think anyone should be proud to be white. Whiteness is a construct that primarily exists to put down people who aren’t white. I think people should be proud to be Irish-American, or Italian-American, or Appalachian, or as a southerner who happens to be white. But whiteness is a construct that exists to put others down.
