When my beloved kitty died unexpectedly, I found having one of his favorite toys with me to be really helpful. Whenever I was feeling sad I could just squeeze it and feel closer to him. I still sleep with it in my hand.

I eventually want to adopt another cat but I need time both to make sure my life is in order again and also to make sure I’m ready to have another one that I will be able to fully acknowledge as a new one and not project feelings of how I treated my previous one, since they won’t be the same cat
