Right. My point is, Hitler never personally harmed anyone himself. But his words inclined others to do horrible things. There’s been an awful lot of people on here the last 24 hours claiming violence against words you don’t like is not justified. And while I don’t mean to say the events of yesterday were, but that the power of words should not be downplayed. Words may not directly hurt anyone, but they can inspire others to do so.
Ok but Charlie Kirk never wanted the extinction of a specific race or ethnicity of people !? He also was not the dictator or leader of an entire country? He was a political activist, but he didn’t represent anyone. His vote had the same power as anyone else no one HAD to listen to him. No one should die due to their very common political beliefs!
Read my last comment again. I quite literally said none of this justifies his murder. But, he became famous for his politically divisive takes. A lot of them dehumanizing women, minorities and oh, can’t forget, excusing the extinction of an ethnicity on the other side of the world. He did not hold office, but you can’t deny his words had influence. The circumstances of his death were a byproduct of the words he spoke. It’s the same slippery slope of what the public now despises Hitler for.
It most definitely is ironic. The only real difference is we have the hindsight bias of winning a war against Hitler 80 years ago and the current knowledge of the atrocities he ordered. Can you imagine speaking to a Nazi back then? They’d probably do a lot of the same mental gymnastics to downplay his words. Charlie may not have been responsible for the Holocaust, but it’s important not to let his death overshadow the hate he put in so many people’s hearts.
