My hot take: If Black and Latino scientists/doctors/engineers are DEI hires, then white athletes are DEI hires too. Argue with my ass

Great logic here, Athletes are strictly chosen by their ability to person the task vs the hiring process that is legally obligated to hire someone of color or risk being shut down so they hire to fill diversity quotas and not by ability. Same exact thing

Nothing wrong with that, if you can’t accept that certain aspects of life hold bias or discrimination and that something should be done to reduce that, then your fundamentally a disingenuous person

Anonymous replying to -> #3 5d

So you think there’s so much bias that we need to be bias in the opposite direction? You’re advocating for bias and discrimination against whites in the name of “equality” Fact if the matter is 1) whites are a much higher % of the population and 2) make up a much higher % of people getting degrees in that field. The issue is not minorities getting discriminated against, they aren’t qualified because they didn’t pursue that line of work, but you force companies to hire them to meet quotas.

well that’s not completely true, there’s hiring bias everywhere which includes professional athletes for example black quarterbacks are often undervalued and underestimated

Yeah so I already said I’m not arguing about this, think about systematically why a lot of them aren’t “qualified” and argue with the wall

What I think is you’re the same type of person to ignore data, and choose to look at only you want in order to justify fighting for a cause you think is morally superior. I’d assume you also believe there’s a gender pay gap as well.

ironically the point of dei is that people actually hire based off of merit because we know that employers are often likely to assume white employees are more capable purely because they’re white instead of based purely on merit

Anonymous replying to -> #5 5d

This is blatantly false. Especially in terms of quarterbacks owners and coaches look for particular skillets to fit their team. As do big companies, why would it be wrong to find someone who fits rather than take a chance on someone who doesn’t? White QBs and black CBs are both positions that are assumed to be set, but someone always breaks the mold. They don’t see a qualified white/black Person and say “they aren’t the right color don’t draft them” it’s just a fact that are often better

They aren’t qualified because they chose other paths. You don’t want to argue because the data is not in your favor. No data shows at all they are discriminated against, all data shows they are often underqualified. Or are you implying they can’t get grants and scholarships to go to college the same as a whites person? Because they also have more opportunities for that. Half the scholarships in the country are for minorities only

girl the point is they’re not just basing it off of skill set that’s not how bias works. they see a skill set and assume subconsciously that skill set includes or doesn’t include things that aren’t on the paper. you can look this up lmao there’s a history of discrimination against black players that still exists today black people in the league have spoken on it plenty

see this is how i know you don’t know what you’re talking about there is no argument in which ALL data shows one thing and NO data shows the other thing lmao. in studies you know they can control for race too right? like they can look at people with similar qualifications then compare racial success and that’s what they do

Anonymous replying to -> #5 5d

There is zero chance that you could ever prove a person “subconsciously” assumed something. No one can, and certainly not players in the game. I don’t think you understand the countless hours of scouting teams do to actually see every aspect of a player before drafting them. They do outright assume their ability to perform at a higher level, that is based on their play at the current level. Why would you lose millions on hiring based on color? You think racism? That would be all of them then

Anonymous replying to -> #5 5d

Yes. And that data shows minority groups get interviewed and are hired at a much higher rate than even more qualified white candidates. That is my point. It is easier for an unqualified or even unqualified minority to get a job that an overqualified or qualified white person. The data shows this. We are advocating for a less skilled workforce in the name of anti-racism. Which in turn makes the program racist

default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #2 5d

well if it’s not subconscious it’s conscious and that wouldn’t be great seeing as coaches and scouts are more likely to describe black players’ acumen as based on physical qualities and like intangible attributes while white players are more likely to be praised for intelligence, hard work, and awareness

They are praised by what they’re good at at that is somehow a problem? If you run fast but don’t read plays any better than anyone else, do I praise you in ability to read plays? If you can recognize another teams play and can call an audible to adjust and gain yards instead of losing the down, do I praise you on your ability to escape the pocket? Players do different things and are praised different. These facts being present more often in one race or the other doesn’t mean it’s racist

Based on number of employees hired. When a group makes up 13% of the population do you think they would account for the same amount of hires within a company as well over 50% of the population? The studies look at number of people hired, whites are hired more often = discrimination It omits data on number of people who applied to the job based on race, and racial population density for the job. If you have 25 oranges and 5 apples. When you reach into the bag are you more likely to get an apple?

well i suggest you look it up yourself but there’s a study conducted by the Journal of African American studies finding that black quarterback success was more likely to be attributed to physical acumen rather than intellect compared to white counterparts

Anonymous replying to -> #5 4d

Who are the best black quarterbacks? They’re all scrambling QBs who frequently take bad plays and run themselves or scramble to make a play. They best were more likely to be good because of their physicality. The best White QBs didn’t have that skill, but could read plays, find the open man, and make better decisions. When comparing the best of each race they have vastly different skill sets they are praised by the skills they had. That’s not racist
