I honestly as a grown ass man still don’t understand why communism is bad.

As a system it’s not bad at all, it actually would be utopia if no one was corrupt. The reason it has a bad rep is because it has never worked. The people in power are always corrupt and take more for themselves than they should, leaving everyone else with less than they need.

I have been wondering this exact thing for ever. And you know who would be perfect for the job of communism… Someone on the spectrum with a strong sense of justice.

would you rather the workers own amazon or jeff bezos own it? that’s communism. most communities throughout history have been communist. there’s never been a completely communist country since we started defining borders. communism is how we naturally exist. capitalism goes against human nature and gives incentive to not care about human life. idk about you but i think the resources on earth belong to every single person on earth. no one has a right to claim and destroy any part of earth

There are two types of communists: authoritarian and anarchic. They each suffer from two different problems. Authoritarian governments are authoritarian and anarchist systems are at best neglectful of the true needs of the people (especially ones with disabilities) and don’t enforce important regulations

It’s not necessarily bad in theory, but in reality most people are selfish at heart so it wouldn’t work

Taking everything away would be bad but they’re so afraid going back to FDR policies. He won 4 times for a reason - shit with a war looming might be good to do Kenseyian economics (always temporary) so many fucking highways have to be fixed by can’t start programs because out of 7 workers 2 are standing around. We just have a hard time handing shit out to PEOPLE but no potholes doing it for foreign govts that have us by the balls and corporations? Ask Ronnie, Clinton, Bush, shit ask Carter.

Let’s be careful, because utopia is a big word. When the government manages your daily work it’s not always the best system. My friends wife apparently grew up in the USSR, and was slotted to be a music teacher because she was a good musician, loved the music hated the kids so she left for the US. Doesn’t really offer much opportunity for career change when you’re trying to efficiently allocate your resources.

Again thats why people say if done properly in theory it would be a utopia…

Can you please elaborate?

Communism is the idea that no one has any person property so the government owns everything. It’s completely authoritarian

This isnt entirely true… It can be owned by either community and or state. So again if it was the ideal communism where the community owned everything and it all was perfect. It would be a utopia. In the case of the state/ government owning it it would probably be a fcking nightmare. Communism would only work if everyone was equally nice.

However that is very unlikely to happen due to greed. Heaven is technically a communist place.

Authoritarian structures, of any sort, are public enemy no 1 imo, because they’re actively evil by attacking marginalized people and exploiting everyone..but anarchistic? They always end up committing passive evil by ignoring the needs of others in self interest, like an undressed mask off capitalist system where it’s every man for himself. Can’t win I guess🤷‍♂️

Can you explain why not having personal property is intrinsically bad?

Have you ever rented an apartment and owned a home? Drastically different levels of autonomy

Anonymous replying to -> #9 11w

Right, but is autonomy intrinsically desirable? Renting an apartment means I have no responsibility when the washer breaks, the landlord pays to fix it. Owning a home means I’m allowed to paint the walls and remodel it, but I have to pay for the washer.

Yes. Autonomy is intrinsically desirable. I’d rather live in a shithole house with incalculable debt and problems that can’t be fixed any time soon, that I can call MY OWN, than live at the whims of a landlord, or some other predatory owner

Intrinsic value and “id rather” are not the same thing. Having opinions is one thing, but I’m asking about whether there’s something about autonomy is always best regardless of opinions.

Living in a capitalist world instills people with values of personal freedom, so it’s natural. I have those values too (I’m also not advocating for communism in any real sense, just making the argument for why it has potential when people aren’t selfish)

Also communism isn’t supposed to be predatory! That’s exactly why I originally said it failed. People are the problem, not the idea. If people acted selflessly then communism is an amazing economic system. But, when greed and lust for power are added to the equation, it crumbles.

Alright, fine. In that case, whether or not something is OBJECTIVELY more desirable is a difficult question, but I’d still argue freedom and autonomy is more desirable. Your failures are your own, your mistakes, your choices, your problems are YOURS to fix, which is infinitely better. I can’t give you empirical evidence to support that autonomy is objectively better, because the ways in which we judge quality of life are intrinsically different depending on our preferences.

Again, there’s still no intrinsic argument here. I swear I’m not trying to stir the pot, just trying to show that before communism was proved to fail that it seriously had potential.

You asked bro, you opened up the conversation. The discussion of autonomy and the importance of owning property is important to the discussion of Communism. I am not personally for or against, I haven’t seen it applied in beneficial ways, but I believe that it ISNT impossible under the right conditions. Not a fan of Capitalism myself either.

I’m capitalist too, I want to own my own car rather than have the government own it and let me use it. But I can’t lie, the government is a lot better at running entire road systems than I am, and having autonomous government owned cars (once the tech is perfected) would make driving infinitely safer than it is with millions of bad drivers on the roads.
