Long story short if we cut SNAP benefits off completely the price of groceries will increase. Smart ppl know why I will not argue with ignorance.

Well making tens of millions of people starve will probably reduces prices a LITTLE bit. Also force a lot of places to close or fire staff, thereby increasing the number of people in need of the now nonexistent assistance. But hey saving that extra $10-20 will be GREAT for the people who can afford it… just at the expense of everyone else or themselves if they’re ever unlucky enough to need it.

Not entirely true. The requirements for snap differ in every state. Some people have to meet strict disability, and employment rules and others don’t. honestly people who have been on a while know that it’s very easy to work around the rules. For a lot of cases, all they need is a written note saying “_ will be working 20 hours a week” you can literally write it yourself. They have accepted, temporary doctor notes in terms of disability papers. So it’s a lot more complicated than u are implying

Do I think we should be giving it out as freely? No, the people who are capable of it should work to provide for themselves and not live off the government. However, economically the government is providing these grocery stores a significant amount of money so yes if we cut that off, our economy is gonna take a big hit from it.

You do realize that most people who are on snap benefits are working? You literally cannot qualify for snap benefits unless you are either working a certain amount of hours or you are disabled and you have to prove that you are fully disabled so you cannot get snap benefits if you are not working, that’s literally the new rules and it’s been in place for a while now.

Everything is complicated but we shouldn’t be punishing people in genuine need in the process of trying to get back at people we’re afraid are misusing the system. And food assistance programs have existed for decades. That’s not the reason why grocery prices are up. So it’s not only punishing innocent people, but it’s not even going to fix the cause of the issue it’s claiming to in the process.

Unless they lied about their circumstances there’s no way to get SNAP without proof of income or you’re homeless or couch surfing. I was on food stamps you cannot get it unless you’re working, disabled or homeless so

Wrong. Just because your experience was that way does not mean it’s applicable to everyone

Could be your state requirements, they didn’t lie they are unemployed get snap, and housing assistance. The only requirement is that you verify your income, so show either it doesn’t exist or it’s low enough to qualify

I feel like this mentality is the problem with our society. We have become so individualised to the point where we prefer total independence over the mere concept of helping others in any capacity. Humans are social, cooperative creatures by nature, and we would not be here today without supporting each other and making small sacrifices. It’s very sad to see this as the dominant mindset in many modern cultures and leads to a lot of unecessary pain and strife for people that are seen as “burdens”

Or even just be a “hardworking” individual that has a random medical injury and bad insurance.
