I’m 120lbs and I bench 60lbs, half my body weight. You’re 300lbs and bench 100lbs, a third of your body weight. Realistically I bench more than you. An actual argument I had with a gym bro when I was being bothered about how to improve my max bench. Stfu it’s all relative

I had no idea men compared their workouts with women. That’s embarrassing. It’s bad enough as a guy having other guys try to compete with me can’t imagine how this must be

I only lift the bar at PF with two 10 pound plates, but I go for low weight and high reps. Usually crank 90-100 reps. Not too sure what my PR would be tho

I bench 140 but only weigh 120 but I’m a guy so I still feel embarrassed about it just because I’m small overall even if it’s relative to me I still wish the numbers were bigger

This is a good way of looking at it, I can do 205 for reps at 209bw and I have been self conscious about how I can’t hit 225, but realistically I’m almost benching my body weight

Everyone has to start from somewhere, the main goal is to get people into the gym and get them motivated about their physical health; but I have an issue with people trying to lord over others by how much “better” their max is

I totally get it I’m lucky that I know gym bros who don’t mind, dare say enthusiastic, about teaching a woman to start lifting and totally meet me where I am in my strength rather than trying to get me start doing their level of workouts I would suggest start going to the gym and just using the treadmill- familiarize yourself with the faculty, the facility, what type of machines there are, if there’s any classes available, just getting use to going to the gym in general, lifting can come later

Like I don’t think it is wrong to admit you are insecure, most people are a little insecure about some things. But trying to make yourself feel better by comparing yourself to people who literally aren’t built the same (ie men vs women in sports) is sad.

Idk about serious but yea lol. I mean benching body weight is the standard of health. That being said, you’d be very surprised. You realize how many 250 pound men there are that can’t bench 250 right? Most 200 pound men have never benched 200 in their life either. It’s not that simple

dude fr like it’s okay to be insecure but it’s like comparing teens to 10 year olds in sports like. girls can 100% be stronger than men yes, but it’s not as common 😭😭😭

You are definitely right, the higher you go up into the extremes for body weight that ratio breaks down. That’s why super heavyweight powerlifters have worse ratios than the lighter weight classes. But it definitely still works for men of a reasonably average height/weight.

Yeah yeah I get what you mean. It just seems like too many people throw around “oh you’re insecure” as like an insult. But yeah I follow competitive powerlifting and I see women who could out lift most men at my local gym. That sport is just insane to watch.

“Definition” of a muscle is achieved mostly by having lower body fat, but if were you I’d increase the weight so that you can do 10-20 reps. You need to put on a ton of size and strength first then you can worry about definition later.

I feel like the golden rule at the gym is to only bother someone else with advice if: 1. You’re ASKED for advice. 2. If that person is doing something wrong that could harm themselves or others. Otherwise, be cordial and mind your business 🙏

That’s awesome you are making progress on your weight, but if you want more hypertrophy lifting in a lower rep range will be way more effective. Being active in any way is great, but the weight is just too easy for you, the muscle needs to be taken close to failure to get the adaptation.

I mean people are judged all the time by things they can’t change. Women judge men for their height and men judge women for their body count. Whether that’s fair or not it’s still what happens. Benching your body weight isn’t even a high bar 🥀
