It’s talking to god, not necessarily convincing him to change things. If your mom could telepathically read your mind, would you still talk to her? It’s about building and maintaining a relationship. You talk to people you love, you talk to god

Prayer doesn’t have to ask god to do anything either, a prayer could simply be “thank you for this meal”.

Yes. But a lot of the time that thing you can’t control is another person(s) free will.
