The confederacy was fighting to keep African Americans in the country, Lincoln wanted to send them to Liberia (voluntarily, not forced repatriation). When Johnson became president, he obviously was sympathetic to the south so he wanted them to remain to be sharecroppers. Had Lincoln remained president for four or even eight more years, there could be a lot less African Americans in the country now had Lincoln’s plan been successful… and that would make Nick Fuentes happy.

Me when I generalize the entire southern population and say they’d burn a northern farm down. You can dislike them for their stance on slavery which is 100% true, they should’ve lost and I’m glad they did. But not all southerners felt this way. Yeah, and also southern schools are among the least educated still and it’s created a bit of a vacuum in upholding problematic systemic racial beliefs. My foster dad was born in Ohio and then moved to Mississippi in the third grade until hs. He still has a fondness and the accent but he wouldn’t go back to live there bc of the tension. It’s a beautiful scenic area but unfortunately systemically neglected even still today for its issues in race discrimination /economic development/etc.

OP and all the people agreeing are saying every southerner was a racist and wanted to burn every northern town down. Most women, children and even a plurality of men didn’t. The top 3% owned slaves, were there racists? Absolutely but it wasn’t a majority. A good chunk fought simply to keep their land and defend their home. I think this is still misleading. The South still voted overwhelmingly against Lincoln’s election. There were unionist strongholds in the South, particularly in the Appalachian footholds where slave owning was rare. But the southern elite had convinced a lot of poor southerners that emancipation of slaves was a threat to their very lives. They held up what happened in Haiti and said “this will happen to you if the slaves are freed”

My comment isn’t to excuse racism, I just was adding in current dynamics and didn’t do a good job to explain. I agree with 11’s point, it doesn’t justify judging someone based on race. I believe it should be attributed to someone’s inner work and outlook over just going with what society teaches.

Confederates aren’t the entire southern population tho and during that war, people did resort to burning farms. Carpet baggers were hated for decades after so their joke isn’t far fetched lol it’s historically based you just didn’t like it. There were free states in the south that didn’t need to side with racists to defend their land
