when gay ppl say “my partner” is it to avoid discrimination? genuine question

im a girl and i call my bf my partner because 1. it sounds more mature 2. i think of relationships as partnerships so not everyone who says it is necessarily gay. and i feel like more straight people should use it too so its not like “outing” a gay person who uses it

for some people the answer might be yes or their partner might be nonbinary or not want to use a gendered term. lots of reasons! some people also don't think boyfriend or girlfriend is "serious" enough

they’re nb😌 also “my partner” just feels more serious. “boyfriend” or “girlfriend” is someone i’m just seeing. “partner” feels like someone i want to stick around

ohhh okay, i’ve noticed this a couple of times where someone’s used partner and their partner was of the same sex. i just hope they wouldn’t think id judge
