He may actually be manipulating you it’s actually commonly discussed by men that “pulling away” from a women when things are “peaking” makes her chase you more. Since you commented on yy I suppose it’s working. Try asking if he’s a “player” and what he likes about you. If he kinda dodges the answer he may be manipulating then again idk your situation
