my ideal relationshp separate bedrooms, we're both attractive, separate cars, proportionately contributing to expenses based on our respective incomes, financially stable, good careers, both in shape & healthy, feminist, we both go to individual therapy

Agreed but only slightly on the separate rooms - I want to fall asleep together, but I absolutely need my own private space when I feel like it

I don’t understand why some people think that once you start dating someone that you’re not allowed to have your own things or space. I’d love separate bedrooms we can decorate however we want, and if we wanna sleep together we can just pick one of the rooms

The only thing that matters here is separate bedrooms everything else either makes sense or is directly related to who you’d consider entering a relationship with anyways

patrick bateman could’ve written this post i think the things you value in relationships are extremely shallow, consumerist, vain, materialistic, disconnected, isolationist, and impersonal. i pray all human beings like this never find me

People like to sleep together and be close to their partner. You want a glorified roommate.

Fr like I still need my own personal space sometimes… and I’d like to have my own room to decorate for my own tastes instead of trying to compromise on something that we might not even like a lot…

You realize you can still sleep with your partner if you have separate bedrooms right? You’d just have two places to choose from instead of just one

everybodys different man. im an extremely light sleeper & any movement or noise will immediately wake me up out of deep sleep. ive been in multiple long term relationships & my health has genuinely suffered from the sleep deprivation that comes with sharing a bed- worse grades, insomnia, almost got into a car accident because i felt like a zombie if that makes me weird then so be it, but im not the only person who thinks this way

it reads like upper middle class suburban america personified, all emphasis on the ways in which you stay separate i think what you’re describing is closer to a mutually beneficial partnership with a focus on outward appearances than a personal relationship but yeah, there are tons of people who would love this kind of thing. i just hope they stay far away from me because imo it is antithetical to growing together as one and (for me) antithetical to love itself

...how is any of this antithetical to love? for me, i feel like when finances are stable, we have our own "mancaves" do decorate as we please, etc etc etc... all of that will minimize arguments and make love easier. just because you want something else doesnt mean my perspective is shallow, or that we cant grow together

i think that all of the things that the separate cars, high income, separate rooms etc are aiming to fix are actually just a means to make it work with the wrong person i love being alone, but the actual function of being alone (recharging, lowest energy state, taking social mask off, being comfy, doing what i enjoy, not talking) is also fulfilled by being in a room with the right person. there will obv be times where you’ll want to be alone alone, but love to me is when being together IS alone

i think when you’re actually in love with the one who is right for you, there is no need for most of the things in the original post. they’re barriers that you would not need with the right one. you’d be happy dirt poor

the things i posted about are not inherently just a "means to make it work with the wrong person"... what if these are just my preferences? preferences that i would want from every person i get into a relationship with? you seem to be stating a lot of your personal opinions as truths. love doesnt just look one way, not everyone is you. and once again, you can disagree and thats fine. but saying that what i said is antithetical to love itself?? is a little extreme 😭
