not to pop your bubble, but once a guy led me on for five months (wrote a 12-page love letter then cheated on me) using that same exact excuse when he, in fact, did not want to have sex with me since i wasnt his type all along.

You said he led you on for five months, did not want to have sex with you, and you weren’t his type. So all of that was happening and the two of you were still in a committed relationship? It just doesn’t make much sense. Someone can def lie to your face while appearing innocent that’s true, but based on your comment it doesn’t seem like that’s what happened to you, seems like he told you the truth and you twisted and deluded it. He can’t cheat on you if you’re not together in the first place

we were in a talking stage for two months before mutually confessing feelings, then we went remote bc we were doing internships over the summer in different cities. he said he was waiting to date when we got back together in person bc he wanted time to figure himself out before fully committing to a relationship. so yes, we weren’t official. but he would tell me about how important monogamy was to him and how much he wanted to be exclusive w me. it was communication with the intent to deceive
